Meet Dan Burnett, CDFA® CQS
Hi, I’m Dan, a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® professional, Certified QDRO Specialist (CQS), and divorce mediator.
I’ve built my career providing financial education and professional support to people working through a divorce. Money is an emotional topic, and that’s heightened in moments of deep transition, like divorce. It’s invaluable to have a trusted professional to support and guide couples through the process and set them up for success after the settlement.
I create a space of trust, education, and transparency, where both partners feel heard and cared for. Together, we’ll create a financial plan that considers the divorce process’s long-term financial and emotional impacts. I also support other professionals who may be involved, like attorneys, mediators, and therapists.
Early in my career, I was a social worker providing drug and alcohol counseling, which elevated my passion for helping people when they need it most and helped me build a foundation for enriching and nourishing client relationships.
While divorce brings about immense financial challenges, a strategic plan and comprehensive understanding of long-term implications increase the chances of reaching an equitable settlement.
My time in the finance industry began in 2001. After several years of working with a regional broker-dealer, in 2005, I helped found Long Green Planning Group. My investment career has spanned now three of the most dramatic financial collapses in market history—the Tech Bubble in the early 2000s, the Great Recession in 2008, and the latest COVID-19 crash of 2020—so I’m no stranger to facing adversity and the strength it takes to come out the other side stronger.
I received my BA in Political Science from the University of Northern Colorado. I fell in love with this active and vibrant state and live with my family in Fort Collins. The outdoors is my happy place, and I find joy in all things cycling, trail running, traveling, skiing, mountain adventures, and reading.
When I’m not adventuring with the family or tending my garden, I engage with the community as the vice-president of the Send Town Bike Club board, a Colorado 501 (c)(3), an organization that gets kids on bikes.
I also hold the Series 7 & 66 security registrations. Check my background on FINRA’s BrokerCheck.
